Make Independence Day More Meaningful

Some fun ideas to teach your kids this weekend about Independence Day!

-Learn the Pledge of Allegiance or the Preamble to the Constitution together!

-Need something more advance for your other kids? Have them memorize more of our founding documents in “The Patriot Challenge”

-Sing Patriotic songs! America the Beautiful, 50-nifty United States, the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless the USA, etc. All of these can be found on YouTube and most with lyrics even! (Here’s a playlist to start with!–VkhyZEmKQWNPURZLu9)

-Do your kids understand the etiquette of the Flag? I’m excited to teach this to my kids. We will also be learning how to fold the flag.

-Review the names of American presidents or founding fathers. These should be familiar names to kids even if they can’t always keep all the names and positions straight.

-ArtForKidsHub has a bunch of 4th of July themed art projects to do as a family.

-Include your family in preparing red, white and blue celebration festivities (food, decor, etc.) Some of our favorites are Waffles with Berries and Whipped Cream, A Flag Cake,( and BBQ food for dinner.

-Ask your families what questions they have about our country. Write down the questions and go look up answers if you don’t know the answer off the top of your head!

-Look at pictures online from the revolutionary war and of the founding documents of our country.

-We have been reviewing historical events by watching the PBS Episodes of Liberty’s Kids. We will be doing this all next week as well. (We own these but just found the full episodes on YouTube too!

-Family History Activities for 4th of July: Love a lot of her ideas!!

Independence Day is a day to celebrate!

And we can also make it a day to learn and reflect and honor America as well!??????

What are your traditions in teaching your Family about America? Don’t have any yet? Today is a great day to begin!
